Jaismine Lamboria made history by becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal at the World Boxing Championships 2025. The historic moment came on Saturday, September 13, in Liverpool, England, where she defeated Paris Olympics 2024 silver medalist Julia Szeremeta in the final of the 57kg category with a 4-1 split decision victory.
Speaking to Olympics.com after her remarkable win, Jaismine said, “This feeling can’t be expressed, I’m so happy to be a world champion. After my early exit at Paris 2024, I went away and improved my technique physically and mentally. This is the result of consistent work for a year.”
Born on August 30, 2001, in Bhiwani, Haryana, Jaismine recently turned 24. She comes from a proud sporting lineage — her great-grandfather was the legendary Hawa Singh, a two-time Asian Games gold medalist in heavyweight boxing, and her grandfather, Hon.
Captain Chander Bhan Lamboriya, was a wrestler. Jaismine’s uncles, Sandeep Singh and Parvinder Singh, who were also national boxing champions, trained her in the sport.
Her boxing journey began during her 10th grade when she expressed interest in taking up boxing. With support from her family and encouragement from her uncles, she enrolled in an academy and started training. She first made her mark at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where she clinched a bronze medal in the lightweight category.
Jaismine was also among the six Indian boxers who qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 after defeating Mali’s Marine Camara 5-0 in the quarterfinals of the 57kg category at the World Olympic Boxing Qualifier in Bangkok.
However, she had a disappointing early exit at the Olympics. Determined to bounce back, she worked on her skills and strategy over the past year — an effort that culminated in her becoming India’s first-ever gold medalist at the World Boxing Championships.
