Jammu: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday confirmed the arrest of a Pakistani national who attempted to illegally cross the International Border (IB) in the R S Pura sector of Jammu. The incident occurred near the Octroi outpost on Sunday night.
The intruder, identified as Siraj Khan from village 27-Chak in Bhalwal tehsil of Pakistan’s Punjab province, was spotted at around 9:10 pm aggressively approaching the border fence in Suchetgarh tehsil. Despite repeated warnings from the alert BSF troops, Khan ignored them, forcing the personnel to open fire before taking him into custody.
During the search, the BSF recovered two Pakistani currency notes — one of Rs 20 and another of Rs 10 — from his possession. He has since been handed over to the police for further investigation.
“A protest is being lodged with the Pakistani counterparts over the incident,” the BSF said in its statement.
The force has also intensified its vigil along the International Border in the Jammu frontier, especially after recent flash floods damaged portions of the border fencing and posts, raising concerns over possible infiltration attempts.
