Mumbai Monorail Breakdown Strands 100 Passengers Amid Heavy Rain

Mumbai faced another infrastructure setback this evening as a monorail train broke down amid heavy rain, leaving nearly 100 passengers stranded for more than an hour. The incident occurred around 6:15 pm when the monorail halted between Chembur and Bhakti Park due to a minor power supply issue, according to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

“Our operations and maintenance teams are already on-site and working to resolve it quickly,” the MMRDA stated in an official update.

Passengers, caught in the emergency situation, immediately reached out to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s helpline number 1916 for assistance. Responding swiftly, the Mumbai Fire Brigade deployed three snorkel vehicles and began rescue operations to ensure passenger safety.

The disruption comes as Mumbai continues to grapple with relentless rain for the past two days, which has already disrupted daily life across the city.
