Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Sunday urged both the ruling and opposition parties to work in coordination for the smooth functioning of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, beginning July 21. Speaking after a constructive all-party meeting attended by 54 members from 51 political parties, Rijiju stressed the shared responsibility of all parties to ensure Parliament runs effectively.
Rijiju confirmed that the government is ready to discuss several key issues during the session, including Operation Sindoor—a counter-terror operation launched after the Pahalgam attack. “The idea of discussing Operation Sindoor in Parliament is a welcome suggestion. All-party delegations visited various countries post-operation, and their experiences should be shared with the nation,” he said.
He also addressed the matter of Justice Yashwant Verma, stating that over 100 MPs have signed a motion seeking his impeachment. Rijiju emphasized that this is not a unilateral move by the government but a collective initiative involving multiple parties.
Highlighting the concerns of smaller political outfits, Rijiju acknowledged the disparity in speaking time and assured that the government will advocate for fairer representation. “We’ve agreed to bring this issue before the Lok Sabha Speaker and the Rajya Sabha Chairman and address it in the Business Advisory Committee,” he noted.
The session is expected to see robust debates on issues such as foreign policy transparency, internal evictions, and voter roll exercises like Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign.
The government also plans to push forward its legislative agenda, including the introduction and passage of the following key bills:
- Manipur GST (Amendment) Bill, 2025
- Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025
- Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025
- Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025
- Geoheritage Sites and Geo-relics (Preservation and Maintenance) Bill, 2025
- Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025
- National Sports Governance Bill, 2025
- National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025
- Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Goa Bill, 2024
- Merchant Shipping Bill, 2024
- Indian Ports Bill, 2025
- Income Tax Bill, 2025
The Monsoon Session will run until August 21, excluding August 13 and 14 due to Independence Day observances.
Additionally, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has launched several digitisation and transparency initiatives under the guidance of the Speaker, aimed at modernising Parliamentary functioning and making it more inclusive and accessible to members and citizens.
