25-year-old tourist from Gujarat has died after paraglider accident in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh

A 25-year-old tourist from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, lost his life when his paraglider crashed at a take-off site in Indrunag, Himachal Pradesh, on Monday evening.

The paragliding site at Indrunag is situated in the outskirts of Dharamshala. According to Kangra District Additional Superintendent of Police Hitesh Lakhanpal, the accident occurred during take-off when the glider failed to ascend and crashed shortly thereafter. Both Satish Rajesh Bhai and the pilot, Suraj, were injured.

Satish suffered severe injuries to his head and mouth, along with other bodily injuries. The 25-year-old was initially treated at the Zonal Hospital in Dharamshala before being transferred to Tanda Medical College, where he unfortunately passed away late at night. Suraj is currently receiving treatment at Bala Ji Hospital in Kangra.

Additional SP Lakhanpal stated that Satish’s family has been notified, and his body will be released to them following the post-mortem examination.

This incident marks the second deadly paragliding accident at Indrunag within six months. In January, a 19-year-old named Bhavsar Khushi, also from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, died during take-off when her glider crashed. Her pilot was injured in that incident as well.

Additional SP Lakhanpal mentioned that the police are looking into possible breaches of paragliding safety regulations in both incidents.

In light of these events, Deputy Commissioner of Kangra Haimraj Bairwa has declared a complete ban on paragliding throughout the district, including the well-known site of Bir Billing, until September 15, due to safety concerns related to the monsoon season.
