In a major step towards digital convenience, the Government of India has introduced a new feature allowing citizens to download their Aadhaar cards directly via WhatsApp.
This facility is available through the MyGov Helpdesk chatbot, enabling users to access their essential identity documents without navigating multiple apps or websites.
Previously, Aadhaar downloads were restricted to the UIDAI portal or the DigiLocker app, but now users can securely retrieve their Aadhaar in PDF format within WhatsApp chats.
The service leverages WhatsApp’s vast user base in India, estimated at over 500 million, to improve accessibility, especially for individuals in rural areas or with limited technological experience. Users authenticate via their registered mobile number and DigiLocker account, ensuring privacy and security.
To download Aadhaar on WhatsApp, users must have a registered mobile number linked to their Aadhaar, an active DigiLocker account, and the MyGov Helpdesk WhatsApp number (+91-9013151515) saved.
The process involves initiating a chat with the MyGov Helpdesk, selecting “DigiLocker Services,” verifying the DigiLocker account, entering the 12-digit Aadhaar number, and authenticating with an OTP sent to the registered mobile number.
Once verified, users can select “Aadhaar” from the list of available documents and receive the PDF directly in the WhatsApp chat for immediate download.
This move simplifies the process of accessing Aadhaar cards, making it more user-friendly and accessible to millions of Indians nationwide.
