Delhi Ashram Scandal: Who Is Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati and Why He Is Wanted

A major scandal has rocked Delhi as Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, a spiritual leader and former director of the Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management, faces grave allegations of sexual harassment, obscene messaging, and fraud.

Over 15 women students, enrolled under EWS scholarships, accused the Swami of using abusive language, making unwanted physical advances, and sending explicit messages. Following the revelations, the ashram management has removed him from his post, and Delhi Police have issued a Look-Out Circular (LOC) as he continues to evade arrest.

Background of Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati:
Popularly known as Parthasarathy, Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati hails from Odisha and had been living in the Vasant Kunj ashram of South Delhi for the past 12 years, where he managed day-to-day operations and simultaneously oversaw the Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management. Though he projected himself as a spiritual guru, the latest allegations have exposed a troubling pattern, leading the ashram to completely sever ties and lodge formal complaints with law enforcement.

Details of Allegations:
Police have recorded statements from 32 students, of which 17 confirmed that Chaitanyananda Saraswati sent them obscene WhatsApp and SMS messages, used abusive language, and attempted to touch them inappropriately.

Several students alleged that faculty and staff members pressured them to comply with his demands. Investigators are currently examining mobile phones, CCTV recordings, and other digital evidence to strengthen the case.

Prior Cases and Pattern of Misconduct:
This is not the first controversy surrounding Chaitanyananda Saraswati. Legal complaints of molestation and fraud were filed against him in 2006, 2009, and 2016 in Delhi’s Defence Colony and Vasant Kunj areas. The repeated allegations over the years have raised serious questions about institutional oversight and student safety at private educational establishments.

Police Investigation and Raids:
Delhi Police have launched statewide operations to trace the Swami, conducting raids in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand.

During a search of the institute premises, a luxury Volvo car with a fake UN diplomatic number plate was seized from the basement, further complicating the case. Investigators believe he has been frequently changing locations to avoid capture.

Ashram and Institute’s Response:
The Sri Sri Jagadguru Shankaracharya Mahasamsthanam Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham (Sringeri) has issued an official statement confirming Chaitanyananda Saraswati’s removal from his post and condemning his alleged actions. The Peetham emphasized its commitment to upholding the law and protecting students’ welfare.

This high-profile case has sent shockwaves across Delhi’s spiritual and academic communities, sparking discussions about accountability, safety, and transparency in ashram-run educational institutions.

Authorities continue their efforts to track down Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati as students and their families await justice.
