Nagapattinam: Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Vijay on Saturday criticized the ruling DMK government for imposing multiple restrictions on his political rallies, questioning why similar conditions are not enforced during visits of the Prime Minister or Home Minister.
Speaking at a massive rally in Puthur, he alleged that the government disrupted power supplies and restricted his movement during his political meetings.
“CM sir, will you impose conditions during the Prime Minister and Home Minister’s visit, or disrupt power as you do to the TVK? Numerous restrictions are imposed on me. I can’t move my hands,” Vijay said.
He cautioned that if such tactics were used during central leaders’ visits, the DMK government would face trouble. Emphasizing the upcoming 2026 elections, he declared, “The contest in 2026 is only between the TVK and the DMK,” urging his supporters to choose between continuing DMK rule or bringing TVK to power.
Vijay alleged that during his Tiruchirappalli meeting, the speaker’s wire was cut, and in Ariyalur, power disruption limited his speech to three minutes. “Impose such restrictions during Narendra Modi or Amit Shah’s visit and see what happens,” he warned, calling the DMK government “tyrannical” toward TVK.
He also questioned Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s foreign trips, asking whether they truly aimed at attracting investment for Tamil Nadu or securing family interests abroad.
Vijay accused the DMK of neglecting development in Nagapattinam, citing the absence of a government marine college, underdeveloped tourism infrastructure, and lack of industrial promotion.
On fishermen and Sri Lankan Tamil issues, he criticized the DMK for writing letters to the Prime Minister but taking no concrete action. “We are not DMK to write letters on fishermen’s problems and remain silent. Our agenda is to ensure lasting solutions for fishermen and Sri Lankan Tamils,” he said, while also accusing the BJP government of discriminating against Tamil Nadu fishermen.
Responding to criticism that he schedules political meetings mainly on weekends, Vijay said the timing ensures public convenience and allows certain political leaders to rest, stressing that rallies were organized keeping followers in mind.
