ABVP Sweeps Delhi University Students’ Union Elections 2025, Rahul Gandhi’s Appeals Fail

New Delhi: The Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections 2025 witnessed a decisive sweep by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which secured three out of the four central posts, including president, secretary, and joint secretary.

Congress-affiliated NSUI managed to retain only the vice president position, despite Rahul Gandhi’s attempts to mobilize students on the basis of an alleged “vote chori” narrative and his promise of a ‘Mohabbat ki Dukaan’ to promote unity and love on campus.

The results reversed NSUI’s partial gains in the previous polls and highlighted ABVP’s strong organizational reach, pragmatic focus on everyday campus issues, and widespread popularity.

ABVP’s campaign promises, such as subsidized metro passes, free Wi-Fi across campus, accessibility audits for persons with disabilities, and improved sports facilities, resonated with student priorities more effectively than ideological appeals.

NSUI had focused on initiatives like free Wi-Fi, hostel welfare, safety, and special leave facilities for girls. However, the ABVP’s extensive campus network and efficient voter contact strategy enabled it to translate its promises into electoral success.

The outcome reflects broader national political alignments, with ABVP often seen as a campus extension of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Its victory strengthens the organization’s presence on campuses, allowing it to bolster allied cadres at municipal and state levels. Meanwhile, NSUI is expected to reassess strategies and consolidate its position ahead of the next elections.

Friday’s results reinforce the ABVP–NSUI rivalry, emphasizing the importance of campus politics as a recruitment ground for national parties and indicating a recalibration of student political sentiment in Delhi’s colleges.
