New Delhi: In a significant development, Delhi Police on Thursday arrested Samir Modi, the younger brother of fugitive businessman Lalit Modi, in connection with a serious rape case that has been under investigation for several years.

Samir Modi was reportedly apprehended at Delhi Airport immediately after returning from abroad, following which he was taken into custody in relation to the case registered at the New Friends Colony police station.

According to news, he was produced before the court and subsequently remanded to police custody. Authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the arrest, but the development has garnered widespread attention given Modi’s high-profile business background.

Born on 15 December 1969, Samir Modi is an influential Indian businessman and the younger son of K.K. Modi and Bina Modi. He currently serves as the Executive Director of Modi Enterprises, a conglomerate established in 1933 by his grandfather, Gujarmal Modi, which has since grown into one of India’s prominent business groups.

Apart from his role at Modi Enterprises, Samir Modi holds key positions as Executive Director of Godfrey Phillips India and Director at Indofil Industries Ltd. Over the years, he has spearheaded numerous ventures under the Modi Group umbrella, including Modicare, a leading direct-to-consumer health and wellness company, Colorbar Cosmetics, a fast-growing cosmetic brand, and the Twenty Four Seven chain of convenience stores.

The arrest of a high-profile corporate figure in a decades-old criminal case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to pursue accountability irrespective of social or business stature, and the case is expected to attract significant legal and media scrutiny in the coming days.
