Saharanpur Tragedy: 19-Year-Old ITI Student Jumps Into Hathnikund Barrage, Dies

Saharanpur: In a tragic incident, a 19-year-old ITI student identified as Shivani from Ratanpura Kalyanpur village jumped into the Hathnikund Barrage on Thursday afternoon, leading to her death. Her body was recovered approximately four hours later after an extensive search operation carried out by divers and police.

A shocking video of the incident has gone viral on social media, capturing the exact moment when the young woman jumped into the barrage.

According to eyewitnesses, Shivani was seen walking along the barrage for some time before heading toward the Western Yamuna Canal near the control room. Several bystanders urged her to return, but she ignored their pleas.

Moments before the incident, Shivani was reportedly speaking on her mobile phone. Suddenly, she turned her back to the canal and leapt into the water.

Three young men who were nearby immediately jumped into the canal with ropes in an attempt to save her but were unable to overcome the strong current, which swept her away.

Pratap Nagar police quickly reached the scene after being informed and launched a large-scale search operation. Shivani’s bag, containing her Aadhaar card and other documents, was recovered at the site.

After several hours of efforts, her body was found and retrieved from the canal.

Authorities have initiated proceedings in the case, and further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.
