Bomb Threats Rock Delhi and Bombay High Courts, Proceedings Suspended

In a day of high drama and panic, bomb threats forced the evacuation of both the Delhi High Court and the Bombay High Court on Friday, leading to an unprecedented suspension of court proceedings in two major cities.

The scare in Mumbai unfolded after the Bombay High Court received a threatening email warning of a bomb attack. The entire court building was immediately evacuated, and judges, lawyers, staff, and litigants were asked to leave as a precaution.

All hearings were suspended while police cordoned off the premises and deployed bomb disposal units, fire services, and dog squads to conduct an intensive search operation.

Advocate Mangala Waghe confirmed the development, telling, “Bombay High Court received a bomb threat today. So, the court has been vacated. Police are investigating it.” A senior police officer assured that the threat was being treated with “utmost seriousness,” with efforts underway to trace the sender of the email.

The incident came just hours after a similar bomb scare at the Delhi High Court created panic earlier in the day. According to sources, the registrar general’s office received the threatening email around 8:39 a.m. The message contained chilling warnings that explosives had been planted inside judges’ chambers and courtrooms, with a blast planned shortly after midday Islamic prayers.

Judges were informed mid-proceedings, prompting an urgent evacuation of the courtrooms starting around 11:35 a.m. The email further claimed that three bombs had been planted across the complex and demanded that everyone vacate the premises by 2 p.m.

Delhi Police quickly swung into action, placing PCR calls and launching search operations with bomb squads, fire services, and dog squads. Lawyers, court staff, and visitors were moved out of the building while security teams combed the area for any explosives.

Both incidents have sparked concerns about coordinated threats to India’s judicial institutions. Investigations are ongoing in both cities to trace the origin of the emails and verify their credibility.
