Massive Traffic Snarl From Ghodbunder Road To Mira Bhayandar Due To Potholes, Wrong-Side Driving

Thane: A massive traffic jam paralysed Ghodbunder Road from Navghar in Mira Bhayandar to Manpada in Thane on Wednesday, leaving commuters stranded for hours. The gridlock began around midnight and was still unresolved by 8:30 am, severely affecting daily commuters travelling between Thane, Mira Bhayandar, Vasai, Borivali, Dahisar, and Navi Mumbai.

According to reports, the primary causes of the congestion are large potholes in the Ghodbunder Ghat stretch and vehicles driving in the wrong direction, leading to complete traffic chaos. The Gaymukh Ghat stretch is in particularly poor condition, with a severely damaged road surface making the situation worse.

Despite multiple repair attempts by the administration over recent months, the problem remains unresolved. Ghodbunder Road is a crucial route for heavy vehicles transporting goods from Uran JNPA port towards Gujarat, as well as for thousands of office-goers travelling from Mumbai’s western suburbs to Thane and Navi Mumbai.

Traffic congestion was reported in both directions — from Navghar to Gaymukh Ghat on the Mira Bhayandar–Thane route and from Ghodbunder Ghat to Manpada on the Thane–Ghodbunder stretch. The presence of stranded heavy vehicles has worsened the chaos.

Thane and Kashimira police have been deployed to manage the situation, but the scale of the traffic jam has made quick resolution challenging. Commuters have expressed frustration over reaching their offices late, urging the administration to implement a long-term solution for better road maintenance and traffic management on this vital arterial route.
