Patna: In a shocking incident, a student was shot in broad daylight outside a coaching centre in Maner, Patna district, raising serious concerns over law and order in Bihar ahead of the assembly elections. The entire act was captured on CCTV, and the footage has gone viral on social media.
The victim has been identified as Rahul Kumar, a resident of Ramapur Tofir in Hulasi Tola. According to reports, the attack took place on Wednesday (September 3) near Maner Police Station. CCTV visuals show a heated argument between Rahul and a bike-borne assailant, who later pointed a gun at Rahul’s chest and opened fire. The student sustained a gunshot injury to his chest and is said to be in critical condition.
Despite his injury, Rahul managed to run towards the police station, after which Station House Officer (SHO) Pradeep Kumar immediately rushed him to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for urgent treatment. A used cartridge was recovered from the spot and has been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for examination.
Police officials confirmed that the shooter has been identified from the CCTV footage. Raids are underway to arrest him, and an FIR has been registered. Initial investigation suggests the shooting was the result of a personal dispute, reportedly linked to a video.
Patna City SP Bhanu Pratap Singh told ANI, “A person named Rahul has been shot near his coaching institute. The identity of the shooter has been established. Prima facie, it appears to be a personal matter between Rahul and the person who fired at him, related to a video. The FSL team has been called to the spot.
