Prime Minister Narendra Modi will engage with top global semiconductor CEOs on Wednesday during a high-level roundtable at the Semicon India 2025 conference, reinforcing India’s vision of becoming a global semiconductor manufacturing and innovation hub. The event is being held in New Delhi from September 2 to 4, attracting industry leaders from across the world.
The CEO roundtable aims to foster strategic partnerships, discuss the latest advancements in the semiconductor sector, and explore investment opportunities. Executives from leading semiconductor companies are expected to share their investment plans, technological innovations, and policy expectations with the Prime Minister.
Inaugurating the three-day event on Tuesday, PM Modi described it as a defining moment for India’s ambitions to emerge as a semiconductor powerhouse. He highlighted the critical role of semiconductors in powering sectors such as healthcare, defence, artificial intelligence (AI), space technology, and smart manufacturing.
Semicon India 2025 will focus on strengthening India’s semiconductor ecosystem through discussions on the progress of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), advanced packaging technologies, fabrication units, infrastructure development, and innovation in R&D. State-level policy frameworks and AI-driven applications are also on the agenda.
Launched in 2021, the India Semiconductor Mission is backed by a ₹76,000 crore Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, with nearly ₹65,000 crore already committed to ten strategic projects. These include semiconductor fabs, Silicon Carbide (SiC) technologies, advanced packaging, and OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Testing) facilities.
Through initiatives like Semicon India 2025, the government aims to attract global investments, promote cutting-edge technology, and reduce dependency on imports, aligning with the vision of making India a self-reliant leader in the semiconductor industry.
