Andrew Garcia, a resident of Orange County, California, lost his prized Lamborghini Huracán EVO two years ago as part of a luxury car theft ring. This ring allegedly targeted high-end rentals, altering ownership documents and reselling vehicles unlawfully.
Months after the theft, Garcia received a surprising message on Instagram asking if he had sold his car—accompanied by recent images. The mystery sender had apparently found Garcia’s business card inside the vehicle, assuming he could facilitate the purchase of rare supercars.

Leveraging AI and Technology
Rather than handing over the investigation solely to authorities, Garcia decided to take matters into his own hands. He uploaded the images into ChatGPT, using clues from the surroundings to derive geographic hints. With additional context from Google’s mapping and satellite imagery, he pinpointed the vehicle’s probable location in Denver, Colorado .
Armed with this data, Garcia contacted Colorado law enforcement. Their prompt action led to the recovery of the Huracán and its confirmed return to the rightful owner.
Praise from Authorities and Ongoing Investigation
Cale Gould, a spokesperson for the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority, praised the innovative approach: “This proactive intelligence gathering is a really great benefit to helping recover stolen vehicles”.
Meanwhile, legal proceedings continue against suspects linked to the theft ring in California. One individual has already been convicted and is awaiting sentencing, with another facing trial in October.
