Mumbai woke up to cloudy skies and intermittent showers on Tuesday, extending the wet spell that has impacted the city since the weekend. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert, warning of heavy rainfall at isolated places today. The ongoing monsoon showers continue to disrupt normal life for residents.
The rainfall that began on August 25 caused significant inconvenience across the city, with overflowing drains, waterlogged roads, and massive traffic jams. Low-lying areas faced severe flooding, while commercial hubs also struggled with continuous downpours. Local train services, considered Mumbai’s lifeline, experienced minor delays. By Tuesday morning, scattered showers and overcast skies indicated that the situation is unlikely to improve soon.
More Rain Predicted for Coming Days
According to IMD forecasts, Mumbai may witness heavy rainfall on August 27, followed by moderate showers on August 28. Isolated areas could experience another spell of heavy rain on August 29. Authorities have advised citizens to remain cautious, especially in flood-prone regions, and to plan travel accordingly.
Neighbouring Regions Under Alert
The weather impact extends beyond Mumbai, with Thane and Navi Mumbai also placed under a yellow alert. In Thane, heavy rainfall is expected in hilly and ghat regions, increasing the risk of landslides and flooding. Navi Mumbai may experience drainage issues, particularly in creek-side areas.
Other districts, including Palghar, Raigad, and Ratnagiri, are also under yellow alert, as IMD predicts wet conditions across the Konkan belt for at least the next five days. Officials are closely monitoring the situation to manage waterlogging, flooding, and traffic congestion in the metropolitan region.
