In a major development in the Nikki Bhati dowry death case, Greater Noida police have arrested Rohit Bhati, the brother-in-law of the victim, making it the third arrest in the case. Nikki, who was brutally assaulted and later set on fire at her in-laws’ residence in Greater Noida, succumbed to severe burn injuries at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on Thursday (August 21).
Earlier, Nikki’s husband, Vipin Bhati, and mother-in-law, Daya, were taken into custody. However, Vipin’s father, Satyavir, remains absconding. According to allegations by Nikki’s sister, Kanchan, who is married to Rohit, Vipin and Daya set Nikki on fire over a dowry demand of ₹36 lakh.
Disturbing videos shared by Kanchan reveal the horrifying ordeal Nikki faced. One video shows Vipin and Daya physically assaulting her, while another captures Nikki, engulfed in flames, walking down a staircase. A separate clip depicts her sitting on the floor with grievous burn injuries. The case has sparked outrage and renewed debate over dowry-related violence in India.
