Fiji PM Sitiveni Rabuka Meets President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan

Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday during his official visit to India. The meeting came after Rabuka and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks in New Delhi, where both leaders addressed a joint press conference and reaffirmed the strong friendship between India and Fiji, emphasizing shared aspirations and mutual cooperation.

During the discussions, the two nations announced several collaborative initiatives, including the establishment of a hospital in Fiji, deployment of Hindi and Sanskrit teachers from India, training programs for Fijian cricketers and priests, and the introduction of agriculture drones to boost farming.

A joint statement highlighted the leaders’ firm stance against terrorism, strongly condemning the Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives. Both countries reiterated zero tolerance toward terrorism, rejected double standards, and agreed to cooperate on countering radicalization, terrorist financing, and misuse of technology for extremist activities.

India and Fiji also resolved to work together at the United Nations and multilateral forums to promote global peace, climate justice, inclusive development, and the voice of the Global South. Rabuka praised India’s leadership role and reaffirmed Fiji’s support for India’s permanent membership in a reformed UN Security Council and its candidature for the 2028-29 non-permanent seat.

Both leaders stressed the need for comprehensive UN reforms and committed to enhancing South-South cooperation to tackle global challenges. Rabuka’s official visit to India will continue until August 26.
