Mizoram Drug Bust: Meth Worth Rs 75 Crore Seized, 8 Arrested

Aizawl: In a major crackdown, Mizoram authorities seized drugs worth Rs 75 crore and arrested eight individuals, marking the second-largest Methamphetamine haul in the state’s history. The operation was carried out by the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Border Security Force (BSF).

Officials intercepted vehicles suspected of carrying drugs on the National Highway between Keifang and Seling. Upon inspection, authorities discovered 49 kg of Methamphetamine and 36 grams of heroin concealed in two trucks. Preliminary investigations indicate that the consignment had been smuggled in from Myanmar. This seizure follows the record Methamphetamine bust of around 100 kg a few years ago.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, against the eight arrested individuals. If convicted, they could face 10 to 20 years of imprisonment along with fines ranging from Rs 1 to 2 lakh. Law enforcement officials described the operation as a significant step in curbing drug trafficking in Mizoram.
