NCERT Launches Special Modules on Operation Sindoor for Classes 3 to 12

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has introduced two special modules on Operation Sindoor for students of Classes 3 to 12, highlighting the mission as not only a military operation but also a pledge to protect peace and honor the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. The modules were released over three months after the operation and serve as supplementary material to raise awareness about India’s military strength among school children.

According to the content, Pakistan denied involvement in the Pahalgam attack, but it was executed on “direct orders” from Pakistan’s military and political leadership. On May 7, 2025, India launched missile and air strikes targeting nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). Seven terror camps were destroyed by the Indian Army, while the Indian Air Force eliminated terrorist bases in Muridke and Bahawalpur, which were key hubs of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.

The modules stress that civilian safety was a priority, stating, “Every target was double-checked. Only terrorist bases were attacked.” Calling Operation Sindoor “a triumph of bravery, strategy, and innovation,” the modules also explain India’s use of advanced air defense systems like the S-400, which neutralized enemy aircraft and drones.

The two modules are titled “Operation Sindoor – A Saga of Valour” for Classes 3 to 8 and “Operation Sindoor – A Mission of Honour and Bravery” for Classes 9 to 12. They also cover nationwide unity during the operation, candlelight marches, and solidarity shown by various communities. In Kashmir, local shopkeepers closed their shops in protest against terrorism, and villagers near the border supported the Armed Forces. The modules note that the response of the Kashmiri population “breaks stereotypes and shows the real voice of peace-loving people.”

The name Operation Sindoor was chosen to honor the widows of the victims, symbolizing empathy and respect. The modules also reference past retaliatory actions such as the 2019 Balakot air strikes after the Pulwama attack and highlight India’s history of strong responses in the wars of 1947, 1965, 1971, and 1999. The material concludes that Operation Sindoor was not just a military action but “a promise to protect peace and honor the lives lost.”
