Ahmedabad is set to become a global sports hub in 2025 as it prepares to host three major international tournaments — the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship, the Asian Aquatics Championship, and the AFC Under-17 Asian Cup Qualifiers.
The Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship 2025 will be held at the Naranpura Sports Complex from August 24 to 30, with participation from over 350 athletes representing 29 countries. Following this, the Asian Aquatics Championship will take place between September and October, featuring top swimmers from countries like China, Japan, and Korea.
Adding to the excitement, Ahmedabad will also host the AFC U-17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026 Qualifiers from November 22 to 30, 2025. The matches will be held at The Arena by TransStadia, with Group D fixtures featuring teams from India, Iran, Palestine, Chinese Taipei, and Lebanon.
Looking ahead, Ahmedabad’s sporting calendar remains packed as the city is also set to host the Asian Weightlifting Championship and the Archery Asia Para Cup – World Ranking Tournament in 2026. Furthermore, India has secured the hosting rights for the World Police and Fire Games 2029, which will be held across Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Ekta Nagar (Kevadia) in Gujarat.
In a significant achievement, India’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games has been approved, and Ahmedabad has been chosen as the host city for this prestigious event, marking a new era for Indian sports.
