Tejaswini Pandit Breaks Down at Mother Jyoti Chandekar’s Funeral in Pune

Veteran Marathi actress Jyoti Chandekar passed away on Saturday, August 16, at the age of 68 in Pune after battling a prolonged illness. Known for her iconic role in the popular Marathi TV show Tharala Tar Mag, Chandekar had been under medical care for several days before her demise.

Her funeral was held on Sunday, August 17, at Vaikunth Crematorium in Pune, where several industry personalities, including MNS Chief Raj Thackeray, paid their respects. A heartbreaking moment captured during the ceremony showed actress Tejaswini Pandit, Jyoti’s daughter, crying inconsolably while performing her mother’s last rites. The video, shared widely on social media, highlighted her deep grief and emotional farewell.

Following the news of her mother’s passing, Tejaswini shared a heartfelt statement on Instagram, which read: “It is with deep sorrow that I share the news that our mother, the esteemed and beloved actress Mrs. Jyoti Chandekar Pandit, who lived life on her own terms and always smiled wholeheartedly, passed away today, 16th August, after a brief illness.”

Jyoti Chandekar, married to Ranjit Pandit, is survived by her two daughters, Tejaswini Pandit and Pornima Pandit. Her demise has left the Marathi entertainment industry and fans in deep shock.

Jyoti Chandekar’s Legacy:
Her acting career spanned over five decades, starting as a child artist at the age of 12. She worked in acclaimed films such as Dharmakanya, Dholki, Paoolwaat, Guru, and Sojourner. Notably, she appeared alongside Tejaswini in the award-winning film Ticha Umbartha, directed by Dipti Ghonsikar, where she portrayed her on-screen mother-in-law. Both performances received critical acclaim, cementing their place in Marathi cinema history.
