In a heartwarming twist to the Janmashtami celebrations, an animal activist from Surat, Gujarat, captured national attention by organizing a special “dahi handi” event for stray dogs. Trisha Jeevdaya, a well-known rescuer and advocate for animals, replaced the traditional human pyramid and pot of curd with a handi filled with dog food, which she playfully broke open for the shelter dogs in her care.
The video of the event quickly went viral on social media, showing excited dogs wagging their tails and enjoying the festive treat. This compassionate gesture not only honored Lord Krishna’s birth but also highlighted empathy toward voiceless beings.
Taking the celebration a step further, Trisha dressed some of the rescued dogs in Krishna-themed outfits—complete with tiny crowns and colorful attire. These “canine Krishnas” stole the show online, with images and clips receiving a flood of love and positive comments. People responded with chants of “Jai Shri Krishna” and “Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki,” calling the celebration one of the most touching tributes to the festival.
Beyond the joy, Trisha used the platform to raise awareness about a growing concern: the Supreme Court’s recent order to remove stray dogs from Delhi’s streets and relocate them to shelter homes. She announced her involvement in an upcoming rally opposing this decision, emphasizing the need for compassion in policy as well as celebration.
What began as a symbolic celebration turned into a larger message—one of inclusion, empathy, and shared joy with all living beings, reminding everyone that festivals are about more than rituals—they’re about kindness.
