PM Modi Inaugurates UER-II and Dwarka Expressway, Cutting Noida-IGI Airport Travel Time to 20 Minutes

Reaching Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport from Noida will now be significantly faster. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated two key infrastructure projects: the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway. Together, these new corridors are set to cut travel time between Noida and IGI Airport to just 20 minutes, while easing traffic congestion on Delhi’s arterial routes.

The UER-II, also known as Delhi’s new “outer ring road,” is a 76-kilometre access-controlled corridor stretching from Alipur to Mahipalpur near the airport. Built at a cost of approximately ₹7,716 crore, the 4-to-6 lane expressway connects areas such as Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh, and Dwarka, while linking major highways including Delhi–Chandigarh, Delhi–Rohtak, and Sonipat routes.

In addition, PM Modi also inaugurated the 29-kilometre Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway, which runs from the Kherki Daula toll plaza to Shiv Murti at Mahipalpur. The Gurugram section of the expressway was opened earlier in March 2024. The ₹9,000 crore Dwarka Expressway has been built in four packages, while the UER-II project was completed in five.

According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), UER-II was developed as part of the Delhi Master Plan 2021. It includes eight lanes, service roads, four multi-level interchanges, and several underpasses for smooth connectivity. These new stretches are expected to divert traffic from Delhi’s busy Ring Road and provide seamless connectivity to the airport, Gurugram, and Jaipur.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and other senior leaders were present at the inauguration ceremony. Officials said the new expressways will significantly reduce travel time, decongest city roads, and provide hassle-free connectivity for commuters in Delhi-NCR.
