Srinagar, Aug 16: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited Kishtwar on Friday to meet families affected by the devastating cloudburst that struck Chasoti village. The incident, which triggered massive landslides, claimed the lives of at least 60 people, most of them pilgrims, while several others were injured or remain missing.
Expressing deep grief over the tragedy, the Chief Minister assured that the government stands firmly with the victims in this hour of crisis. He announced immediate ex-gratia relief from the CM’s Relief Fund to support affected families: ₹2 lakh for each deceased, ₹1 lakh for those severely injured, ₹50,000 for minor injuries, ₹1 lakh for fully damaged structures, ₹50,000 for severely damaged structures, and ₹25,000 for partially damaged structures.
Additionally, Omar Abdullah directed officials to ensure the immediate restoration of damaged infrastructure in the affected areas. In a post on X, he reiterated the government’s commitment to providing all necessary assistance to the victims and their families.
