Dewald Brevis Smashes Fastest T20I Fifty for South Africa Against Australia

South African batting prodigy Dewald Brevis showcased his explosive power-hitting yet again by smashing the fastest T20I fifty for South Africa against Australia in the series decider at Cazaly’s Stadium, Cairns, on Saturday. The 22-year-old sensation, popularly known as ‘Baby AB’, reached his half-century in just 22 balls, surpassing his previous record of a 25-ball fifty from the second T20I in Darwin earlier this week.

With his blistering knock, Brevis also eclipsed Ravi Bopara’s 23-ball record for the fastest T20I fifty against Australia on Australian soil, set in 2014. Before Brevis’ heroics, former Proteas star JP Duminy held the South African record for 16 years with a 31-ball fifty in Melbourne in 2009.

Brevis went on a six-hitting spree, hammering the Australian bowlers with audacious strokes, including two stunning no-look sixes and four consecutive sixes to bring up his milestone. His innings ended at 53 off 26 balls after Nathan Ellis deceived him with a slower delivery, with Glenn Maxwell completing a sharp catch.

Earlier in the series, Brevis had already made headlines with a breathtaking unbeaten 125 off just 56 balls in Darwin, the second-fastest T20I hundred for South Africa, only behind David Miller’s 35-ball century against Bangladesh in 2017.
