A major accident occurred on Friday inside the Humayun’s Tomb complex in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area when the roof of a room near a mosque collapsed, leaving at least 12 people injured. According to officials, the roof of a restroom adjacent to the wall of Pate Shah’s dargah gave way, initially trapping several people underneath. The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) first estimated that 8–9 people were trapped, but later reports indicated that 14–15 individuals might have been inside at the time of the collapse.
The incident was reported around 4:30 pm, and five fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the site. Authorities clarified that the main dome of the 16th-century UNESCO World Heritage Site remained unaffected. The collapse occurred in a smaller structure within the complex, not the primary monument.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with 11 people successfully rescued so far. Teams from the police, fire department, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are on-site conducting search and relief efforts. Officials suspect incessant rainfall in Delhi as a contributing factor to the collapse.
Delhi has been experiencing continuous rainfall for the past few days, leading to multiple weather-related accidents. On Thursday, an old tree fell on a motorcyclist, killing him instantly and injuring a woman nearby. Additionally, a car was damaged in the incident.
Earlier on Friday, a separate incident occurred in the Bawana area, where a massive fire broke out at a socks manufacturing factory. The DFS received a call about the blaze at 12:38 pm and deployed 15 fire tenders to douse the flames. No casualties have been reported so far.
