Approximately 65 families of the victims from the June 12 Ahmedabad plane crash have submitted a petition in the US Federal Court against Air India and Boeing, the manufacturer of the aircraft, through the well-known law firm Beasley Allen based in the United States.
Mike Andrews, the aviation attorney from Beasley Allen representing the case, has visited the crash site located in the Meghaninagar area of Ahmedabad to perform a detailed inspection and gather initial information. Following this, he traveled to Vadodara, where he met with several families of the victims, most of whom are from Gujarat and the nearby region of Diu.
Previously, Andrews informed reporters that the families had the option to file a product liability claim in a US court, contingent on the results of the ongoing investigation. He emphasized that the families are seeking clarity on what transpired, the reasons behind it, and the legal options available to them.
Andrews has called on the Centre to disclose the information from the flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder, enabling lawyers and experts to analyze the data and consider additional legal actions.
On June 12, Air India flight AI-171, a Boeing 787-8 aircraft bound for London’s Gatwick, tragically crashed into a medical hostel complex shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The incident resulted in a fire that claimed the lives of 241 out of 242 individuals on board, including former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani, as well as 19 people on the ground, among them four medical students.
