The Commerce and Transport Department of Odisha has launched the “Suraksha Dori” campaign throughout the state in celebration of Rakhi Purnima.
This initiative, spearheaded by the State Transport Authority (STA) and Regional Transport Offices (RTOs), seeks to cultivate a sense of accountability among drivers by symbolically tying safety threads—similar to Rakhi—to their wrists.
Students, volunteers, police personnel, and departmental staff collaborated in this effort, encouraging drivers to commit to safe driving practices. The ‘Suraksha Dori’ acted as a metaphorical reminder that just as Rakhi represents protection and care, road safety is a collective responsibility to protect lives.
Officials highlighted that this initiative is more than just a ceremonial act; it is a call to action. “Every thread tied today signifies a promise—to drive responsibly, to adhere to traffic regulations, and to cherish life,” stated a senior STA official.
The campaign received enthusiastic participation across various districts, with transport hubs, schools, and public areas serving as venues for these symbolic pledges. By connecting road safety with cultural values, the initiative aims to encourage lasting behavioral change within Odisha’s driving community.
