Ravindra Jadeja Becomes Third Cricketer to Score 1000 Runs and Take 30 Wickets in an Away Country

Ravindra Jadeja created history on Sunday during the fifth day of the fourth Test match at Old Trafford, Manchester, by becoming only the third cricketer to score 1000 runs and take 30 wickets in an away country. The Indian all-rounder joined an elite list alongside England’s Wilfred Rhodes and West Indies’ Garry Sobers, who previously achieved similar milestones.

At the stroke of Tea on Day 5, Jadeja was unbeaten on 53 runs off 102 balls, completing his 1000 runs in away Tests in England. Earlier in the match, Jadeja’s four-wicket haul (4/143 in 37.1 overs) dismissed key England batters — Zak Crawley, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Brydon Carse — helping him reach the 30-wicket mark in England.

This knock also marked Jadeja’s fifth fifty of the series, equaling VVS Laxman’s record for the most 50-plus scores by an Indian from No.6 or below in a Test series. His consistent performances with both bat and ball have been pivotal in India’s fight throughout the series.

During the second session, Jadeja and Washington Sundar batted with grit and patience, adding 99 runs in 29 overs without losing a wicket. Sundar remained unbeaten on 57, ensuring England’s hopes of a late comeback were minimized.

With one final session remaining, India held a narrow lead, making a draw the most likely result — which would see England take a 2-1 series lead into the final Test at The Oval.

Earlier in the first session, Shubman Gill’s century (103 runs) kept India’s chances alive, helping the visitors post 223/4 at Lunch on Day 5.
