Three Indian students have secured gold medals, while two others have achieved silver at the 55th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2025. This prestigious event took place in Paris from July 18 to 24, featuring 415 students from 87 different countries.

This announcement follows India’s impressive performance earlier this year, where the country secured six medals and ranked 7th out of 110 participating nations in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) held in Australia, recognized as one of the most challenging mathematics competitions globally. The team achieved 3 golds, 2 silvers, and a bronze, with a remarkable score of 193 out of 252.

India also excelled at the International Chemistry Olympiad 2025 in Dubai, winning 2 gold and 2 silver medals, which placed them 6th overall among 90 countries.

INDIA RANKS FIFTH IN MEDAL TALLY
India shared the fifth position in the overall medal tally of the Physics Olympiad with Taiwan, Japan, and Russia.

The USA topped the rankings with five gold medals, while China, South Korea, and Hong Kong collectively secured second place with four golds and one silver each.

GUIDED BY EXPERIENCED EDUCATORS
The Indian delegation was headed by Prof Sitikantha Das from IIT Kharagpur and Vinayak Katdare, a retired faculty member from DG Ruparel College, Mumbai.

The team also received support from scientific observers Dr Amruta Sadhu (St Xavier’s College, Mumbai) and Dr Vivek Lohani (Robert Bosch GmbH, Germany).
