On Thursday, Bengaluru Police apprehended a 19-year-old individual for allegedly posting obscene videos of women on the social media platform Instagram. The suspect has been named as Dilawar Hussain, who resides in the Byrathi area near Kottanuru on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
The Ashoknagar Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against him under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act. As per the police report, the accused uploaded inappropriate videos aimed at women on Instagram.
He established an Instagram account titled ‘Dilbar Jaani-67’, and in an effort to attract more views and followers, shared objectionable videos under the label ‘Bangalore Night Life’. These videos featured background music in Bengali and other languages.
The police indicated that the accused created a public disturbance by sharing objectionable videos of women.
In a different case, Bengaluru Police arrested a 26-year-old man on July 10 for allegedly filming women in public areas and posting the videos on social media in an inappropriate manner. The individual has been identified as Gurudeep Singh.
Gurudeep Singh was taken into custody by Banashankari Police after a suo motu case was registered. This action was prompted when one of the women depicted in a video tagged the Bengaluru Police Department on Instagram, requesting intervention.
DCP (South) Lokesh Jagalasar mentioned that the accused, who had been capturing voyeuristic images and videos of women and sharing them on Instagram, was arrested following a suo motu FIR filed at the Banashankari police station.
The FIR was lodged a few weeks prior. The police are currently working to remove the accused’s Instagram account, he noted. According to law enforcement, the accused had been posting videos of women filmed in public locations such as Church Street in Bengaluru, without their consent.
A young woman, who claims to be one of the victims, took to Instagram to recount her experience, igniting widespread outrage.
