Mumbai: The legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj transcends both time and geography, as stated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who emphasized that every fort constructed by the legendary Maratha warrior king represents more than mere architecture; it embodies a vibrant narrative of purpose and vision.
“The legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is not limited by time or geography. It remains timeless, serving as a guiding force that resonates in every heartbeat of Maharashtra. With its acknowledgment by a global institution, this moment is filled with immense pride and emotional significance,” Fadnavis remarked during the ‘Shivkalyan Raja’ program, which celebrated the inclusion of 12 forts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list, in Mumbai.
“Each fort erected by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is more than just a physical structure; it tells a living story of purpose and vision. From the spiritually important Panhala and the foundational strength of Rajgad to the formidable sea forts like Sindhudurg, Vijaydurg, Suvarnadurg, and Khanderi, each fort stands as a testament to strategic brilliance, cultural richness, and the unwavering spirit of Swarajya,” he added.
Fadnavis noted that constructing sea forts during that era was an engineering marvel, and the utilization of lakhs of kilos of lime and iron illustrates the magnitude of that vision.
“Salher, the tallest fort in Maharashtra, and Raigad, which impressed British envoys with its strength, exemplify a governance model that harmonized military foresight with cultural depth. From these very forts, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj governed territories extending from Nashik to Jinji with unparalleled efficiency,” he stated.
“This recognition by UNESCO transcends mere monuments; it embodies the ideals that have shaped our collective conscience. These forts have withstood the test of time, conflict, and nature. They rise as enduring symbols of a vision that continues to inspire. This is not merely history; it is a living heritage that communicates with the world,” Fadnavis concluded.
