A primary school teacher in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, has been suspended after a video went viral showing her oiling her hair and playing Bollywood music inside a government classroom, while students looked on quietly.
The video was taken at Mundakheda Primary School in the Khurja block. In the now-famous clip, the teacher is seen seated on a chair during class hours, applying hair oil while listening to classic Bollywood songs like Sawan Ki Ghata Chhai and Deewana Hua Badal on her phone.
The footage, reportedly recorded on the afternoon of July 19 during regular class time, depicted students passively watching the teacher instead of participating in any educational activities.
The video, which emerged on social media, ignited outrage regarding the state of education in government schools and the accountability of teachers, particularly in Uttar Pradesh.
In response to the viral video, Laxmikant Pandey, the district’s Basic Education Officer, confirmed that the teacher had been suspended immediately. “An order has been issued, and the incident is under investigation,” he remarked.
As the education department investigates the situation, lingering questions arise: how many classrooms like this go unnoticed, and how many students silently endure the erosion of their right to quality education in real time?
