New Delhi: On Sunday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a fierce critique of the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, for seeking clarification from the government regarding US President Donald Trump’s unclear statement about five jets being downed during Operation Sindoor.
Labeling him as the “star campaigner” for Pakistan, the BJP accused Rahul Gandhi of belittling the valor of the Indian armed forces and promoting the narrative propagated by Pakistani media.
This criticism came in response to Gandhi’s comments on Trump’s statements made during a private dinner on Friday. The US President mentioned that five jets were shot down during Operation Sindoor, which was India’s military response to the Pahalgam terror attack in April, but he did not specify whether the aircraft belonged to India or Pakistan.
On Saturday, Rahul Gandhi posted on X, sharing a video clip of Trump’s statement and wrote in Hindi, “Modi ji, what is the truth behind the five jets? The country has a right to know.”
The BJP denounced the Congress leader’s post, asserting that in his opposition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi questions the integrity of the nation and its armed forces. The party accused him of persistently demoralizing the armed forces with such comments.
BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal remarked, “This is not the first instance. Historically, Congress and opposition parties have questioned the bravery and valor of our armed forces. They should remember that this is PM Modi’s India, and he knows how to make and implement decisions. Therefore, anyone who believes that India can be dominated is mistaken.”
BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh also criticized Gandhi, stating, “Under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress and the INDIA bloc have become advocates for the Pakistani army and its media propaganda. The sole objective of the Opposition is to disseminate misinformation. This is regrettable.
