Centre Strategizes Ahead of Politically Charged Monsoon Session Amid Operation Sindoor Heat

With the Monsoon Session of Parliament set to begin on July 21 and run until August 21, political activity in New Delhi has intensified. The government is preparing for a turbulent session, particularly in light of the Opposition’s plan to raise Operation Sindoor and other contentious issues.

On Friday, a high-level meeting was held at the residence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, attended by key leaders including Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Piyush Goyal, Kiren Rijiju, Manohar Lal, L Murugan, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and CR Patil. The gathering focused on formulating strategy to ensure smooth proceedings in the face of expected opposition disruptions.

Significantly, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of the three armed forces also participated in the meeting, highlighting the sensitivity of the issues at hand.

The Modi government is reportedly preparing a strong and united front to defend its policies, especially in light of growing demands from the Opposition for a debate on Operation Sindoor and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. Opposition parties like the Congress, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, and Rashtriya Janata Dal have accused the Centre of using SIR to influence electoral rolls in BJP’s favour.

The legislative agenda for the session is extensive. The government is expected to table and seek passage of multiple important bills, including:

  • Lok Sabha Manipur GST (Amendment) Bill, 2025
  • Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025
  • Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025
  • Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025
  • Geo-Heritage Sites and Geo-Relics (Conservation and Maintenance) Bill, 2025
  • Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025
  • National Sports Governance Bill, 2025
  • National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025

The session is expected to be high-voltage and politically charged, with major national issues and critical legislation up for debate.
