Bomb threat reported in 40 schools across Delhi, with a ransom demand of $30,000

Over 40 schools in Delhi, such as the Delhi Public School in RK Puram and GD Goenka Public School in Paschim Vihar, were targeted with hoax bomb threats sent via e-mail. On Monday, the Delhi Police confirmed that these threats were false, as no suspicious items were discovered during their investigation.

According to the Delhi Police, the e-mails, which were sent around 11:30 PM on Sunday, claimed that bombs had been placed on the school premises and demanded a ransom of $30,000 to prevent the explosions.

In response to the bomb threats, authorities decided to send students home and temporarily close the schools, citing an emergency situation.

This recent event follows a similar incident that occurred over a month ago, where multiple CRPF schools across the country, including two in Delhi and one in Hyderabad, received bomb threats via e-mail.

The first threat was reported at a CRPF school in Tamil Nadu on the night of October 21, which led to an alert being issued to all affiliated schools nationwide, as stated by the Delhi Police at that time.

Ultimately, this threat was also determined to be a hoax.

On October 20, a significant explosion occurred at a CRPF school in the Rohini area of Delhi, damaging nearby shops and vehicles, and creating a hole in the school’s wall.

Fortunately, there were no reports of casualties or injuries resulting from this incident.

A pro-Khalistani group took responsibility for the blast on Telegram, which prompted the Delhi Police to contact the social media platform for information regarding the channel from which the post originated.

In recent months, numerous Indian airlines, hotels, and train stations have received bomb threats, all of which have been confirmed as hoaxes.

During the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol reported that the number of hoax threat calls to airlines surged from 122 in 2023 to 994 in 2024, representing a staggering increase of 714.7 percent.

In October alone, airlines received 666 bomb threat calls, the highest number recorded this year, followed by June with 122 threats. In contrast, only 15 threat calls were documented in September and October 2023, which was the highest for the previous year.
