Radhika Yadav Murder: On Friday, a local court in Gurugram placed Radhika Yadav’s father, Deepak, in one-day police custody.
The court granted custody to the police for Deepak (49), who is accused of fatally shooting his daughter, emphasizing that this is a “serious matter” necessitating an “in-depth” investigation. The police intend to take him to a village in Rewari to recover the firearms involved.
Medical reports concerning the accused were submitted alongside the remand documents following a thorough medical examination.
The 25-year-old former athlete was shot dead by her father at their family’s double-storey residence in the affluent Sushant Lok area of Gurugram on Thursday. Deepak Yadav (49) later admitted to killing his daughter and was subsequently arrested.
No Honour Killing Angle: Police
Vindo Kumar, the Station House Officer at Sector 56 police station in Gurugram, has dismissed any notions of love or honour killing. The police are exploring all potential motives behind Radhika’s murder, including the actions of her mother during the incident.
An FIR filed based on the complaint from the deceased’s uncle, Kuldeep Yadav, states that Radhika’s mother, Manju Yadav, was on the first floor of the house when the shooting occurred.
According to police reports, Deepak fired a minimum of five shots, three of which struck Radhika in the back, resulting in her immediate death. Initially, it was reported that her mother was on the ground floor and rushed upstairs upon hearing the gunfire, which she described as sounding like a pressure cooker explosion.
In the FIR, Kuldeep Yadav mentioned that Deepak, his wife Manju, and daughter Radhika resided on the first floor of the house in Sector 57, while he lived on the ground floor with his family.
Sources indicate that Deepak Yadav confessed to shooting Radhika due to frequent taunts about relying on her income. However, police officials stated that the tennis academy Radhika operated was the primary source of conflict between father and daughter.
“Radhika previously operated a tennis academy, which displeased her father,” stated Sandeep Singh, spokesperson for the Gurugram police.
She held the 1999 ranking from the International Tennis Federation. As per the federation’s website, Radhika Yadav participated in tournaments earlier this year in Indore and Kuala Lumpur; however, these were part of the qualifying rounds and not the main event.
