Kap’s Cafe, a restaurant owned by Indian comedian and actor Kapil Sharma, has issued its first public response following a shooting incident that occurred outside the cafe in Surrey, British Columbia, around 1:50 a.m. (local time) on Thursday.
In an emotional statement shared via Instagram Stories on Friday, the cafe expressed deep shock and sorrow over the incident, calling it “heartbreaking.”
“We opened Kap’s Cafe with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversation. To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking,” the message read.
While acknowledging the emotional toll, the cafe assured its patrons that it remains committed to its mission and will not back down.
“We are processing this shock but we are not giving up. Thank you for your support—your kind words, prayers, and memories shared via DM mean more than you know.”
The statement emphasized the strong bond between the establishment and its community:
“This cafe exists because of your belief in what we’re building together.”
Calling for unity, Kap’s Cafe urged the public to “stand firm against violence” and help preserve the cafe as a safe and welcoming space.
“From all of us at Kap’s Cafe, thank you and see you soon, under better skies. With hope and gratitude. #supportkapscafecanada”
The cafe also extended its heartfelt gratitude to Surrey Police and the Delta Police Department (@deltapd) for their swift response and efforts to ensure public safety during the incident.
No injuries were reported, and an investigation into the shooting is currently underway. Further details from authorities are awaited.
