In a surprising development, Linda Yaccarino has stepped down as the Chief Executive Officer of  X (formerly Twitter), the social media platform owned by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk. The announcement was made on Wednesday through a post shared by Yaccarino herself on the platform.

The former NBCUniversal advertising executive, who took charge at X in 2023, said her two-year stint with the company had been “incredible”.

> “After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of X. When Elon Musk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company,” she wrote.

In her farewell note, Yaccarino expressed immense pride in the transformation brought about by her team, highlighting the efforts made towards user safety and advertiser trust.

> “I’m incredibly proud of the X team – the historic business turnaround we have accomplished together has been nothing short of remarkable. We began with critical early work focused on prioritising user safety—especially for children—and restoring advertiser confidence,” she stated.

She also pointed to several key innovations during her tenure, including *Community Notes* and the soon-to-be-launched X Money, while expressing optimism about the company’s future under the new partnership with xAI.

Thanking Elon Musk, she wrote:

> “I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App. X is truly a digital town square for all voices and the world’s most powerful culture signal.”

Interestingly, Yaccarino did not provide any specific reason for her departure, leading to speculation about the timing and cause of the decision.
