Major fire breaks out in Oman-bound vessel with 14 Indian-origin crew

The Indian Navy has sent a stealth frigate to help a Palau-flagged ship that suffered a significant fire in its engine room, a spokesperson reported on Monday.

The ship, which had 14 crew members of Indian descent, was en route to Shinas in Oman after leaving Gujarat’s Kandla.

As per the Navy spokesperson, the stealth frigate INS Tabar, which is currently stationed in the Gulf of Oman, acted on a distress signal from MT Yi Cheng 6 on Sunday.

“The ship with 14 crew members of Indian origin, traveling from Kandla in India to Shinas, Oman, faced a severe fire in the engine room and a complete power outage onboard,” the spokesperson stated.

The fire-fighting team and equipment from INS Tabar were delivered to the ship using the ship’s boat and helicopter, he mentioned.
